Jarte

Whether you're writing a business letter or the great American novel, you don't need to fork over the cost of a few hardcover books just to use your PC as a typewriter. You don't need tons of extra bells and whistles getting in between you and your deathless prose, either. Jarte is a compact word processor--small enough to put on a USB key--that's completely free of charge.

Jarte's small size doesn't keep it from offering some well-selected features. For instance, WordWeb integration offers dictionary and thesaurus word lookup on the fly. Firefox fans will like the tabbed document windows. Jarte is designed to make it easier to find the documents, folders and fonts that you designate as favorites.

If you like Jarte but would appreciate extra features such as document notes, personal shortcuts, and a choice of background patterns, consider buying Jarte Plus from the vendor's site.
