LULU

Book published in the past meant striking a deal with a publisher, getting paid a lousy commission, and losing the rights to your work. However, with Lulu, the traditional publishing model is thrown right out the window.

Lulu allows you to self-publish your work, and this means that you can set your own price, keep the rights, and then Lulu will only get their piece of the financial pie when you sell copies of your title. They operate on a print on demand policy, so copies of your work are printed as each order is received. There are also no set-up fees, so besides actually having something to publish, there are no other barriers to prevent you from becoming a published author. In addition to a variety of book types, Lulu also publishes and sells calendars, CDs and DVDs, digital media, brochures, and images.

I have looked at the site and it seems exactly as it states so go on Get Publishing

Serif PhotoPlus 6 (Free)

PhotoPlus 6 - Image and Photo Editing Software

PhotoPlus 6 is a free program that does a creditable imitation of Photoshop Elements. Along with painting, drawing, and text manipulation tools, there are tools for erasing, filling, and cloning a region.

A Layer Manager lets you work with layers and masks, as you would in Photoshop. Selection tools include a lasso-like Freehand tool. You can adjust the hue and contrast of an image (though you can't experiment with levels and curves, because that option is not available here).

Other features in PhotoPlus 6 are specific to preparing graphics for the Web. The Image Slice and Image Map tools allow you to add hyperlinked hotspots to navigation elements and other online graphics. A PhotoPlus 6.0 companion PDF with instructions and a few tutorials is also available. A tutorial for creating an animated GIF image is included.

ALL the PROGRAM UPDATES on one handy site

FILE HIPPO

File Hippo, a nifty site that caters to those of us wanting to get the latest versions of our favorite applications. The page is spotless, with just the updated programs (including the version numbers) and one unobtrusive ad. Here's the link:

Invitt LE

Invitt LE

Invitt LE lets you invite others to see your screen with a minimum of fuss, installation, and registration. The LE version doesn't have as many features as the Pro version: You can only share your screen with one other computer over the Internet, and your invitee will have to register to see your screen. But all this takes about two minutes, and I haven't seen a competing program that makes it easier.
Basically, using Invitt LE only requires entering your invitee's e-mail address in the dialog and clicking Show Screen. Your invitee receives an e-mail including a link. She or he clicks on the link, which opens a browser window showing your screen (I tested with Internet Explorer and Firefox, and both worked). To see it, your invitee must have the latest version of Java (www.java.com).

Manual

Use Invitt to show your screen to your contact while you're talking to her on the phone. This is so quick and simple that it can be done ad hoc in a phone conversation.

A normal session would look like this:

Step 1 - You Are On the Phone With Your Contact

Step 2 - You Have Sent an Invitation

Step 3 - Your Contact Has Clicked the Link

Step 4 - End the Invitt Session

This is as easy as it gets!

Zoho Wiki

Hands-on with thanks to  http://www.webware.com

Zoho Wiki brings wikis and office apps together

By Josh Lowensohn – December 20, 2006, 10:50 AM PST

Online applications company Zoho has launched Zoho Wiki, a Web-based wiki tool that integrates with Zoho's entire suite of productivity applications. Zoho Wiki lets you create three different wikis, each with a custom URL and unlimited pages. What's a wiki? Well, it's an information repository that anyone with the right permission can read, write, or edit. The most famous, of course, is Wikipedia.

(Credit: CNET Networks)

Wikis have lots of uses, especially in small businesses. Creating casual documentation for projects, or a knowledge base for products and services is easier to navigate in a wiki than a spreadsheet or large document. There are several other Web-based wiki tools on the market (like Wetpaint and Wikia), but none have the added benefit of sibling apps that can be embedded in pages. Did I mention all the Zoho Web office apps are free?

Authoring a new wiki page uses the same interface as Zoho's collaborative writing app, Zoho Writer. If you're unfamiliar with Zoho Writer, think Microsoft Word in your browser for free. You also can embed elements from Zoho's other apps like Sheet and Show, putting spreadsheets and presentations into your wiki if you're creating a business-oriented reference. Embedding other elements is easy and intuitive. In most cases, copy and paste will do the trick. However, I had some trouble with pasting HTML. Often times it would format peculiarly, giving links giant header text. Aside from a few quirks, the WYSIWYG approach to editing is great, and can make laying out information very efficient.

(Credit: CNET Networks)

Creating one of your three wiki sites brings up customization options like color schemes and privacy controls. Once you've got those set, you can begin creating your very own compendium of information. You can create three types of wiki projects with Zoho: public, private, or group. The latter is especially useful if you're working collaboratively. At any point you can change the permission settings to control which users have access to your wikis.

I like how Zoho is developing its suite of Web-based software. New Web applications keep rolling out, while Zoho continues to focus on improving existing tools. Zoho Wiki is the only recent release that's caught my attention and is an app that brings it all together. While the other Zoho apps have been useful on their own, Wiki lets you build projects that are truly massive in their reach without having to use or buy other products.

Bubbl.us

The brainstorming sessions that bubbl.us gets you started with are based off of the mind mapping approach to conceptualizing and organizing information. First of all, you start off with a central subject that you specify and then you work around it by diagramming words, ideas, and tasks that are related to it. Pikipimp

Pikipimp

Many of us resort to making images of people, places, or things look goofy, and you can’t go wrong with that. PikiPimp allows you to pimp your images with a variety of humorous graphical elements.

Once you’ve uploaded your image, you can then let your creativity be your guide. Drag any of the available objects (beards, chest hair, wigs, glasses, and so on) that you want onto your image and position and modify them just so to enhance the comedic effect. Preview your image to see how it will look, and once satisfied, you can then save the image to your hard drive or paste the code to display it on your Web site. Let the humiliation begin.

KidRocket Web Browser (FREE)

KidRocket Web Browser v1.0

A GREAT Idea for your Kids safety online.

What is it?
Its a Flash based web browser for kids!
How does it work?
Its really simple really. Instead of letting the browser have access to the whole world wide web & 'trying' to filter out the bad content, like most childrens internet browsers & filtering software do. We blocked out the entire internet & only let the browser access limited, top quality, child related sites that we programmed into it!
Its kind of a K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple Stupid) approach, but it works great!
Minimum System Requirements?
A Windows PC running Windows 95, 98, 98se, ME, 2000, XPhome or XPpro and Internet Explorer 5 or greater.
Instructions to Install & Un-install KidRocket?
INSTALL:
  • Simply click the button above to download the latest KidRocket.exe file.
  • Save the file to a place that you will remember, preferably your Desktop.
  • Then double click on the KidRocket icon to launch the application.
UN-INSTALL:
  • Simply right click the KidRocket icon & choose 'Delete'.
  • Thats all there is to it!
Notes:
  • The Kidrocket Kids Browser is a 'Standalone' application, meaning it runs from within itself & does not actually install to your computers main C:\\ drive Programs folder, like most applications do.
It is totally non-invasive, 100% adware and spyware free!
RE: Firewalls and Anti-Virus Software.
  • KidRocket is a 'Web Browser' & therefore, will REQUIRE permission from your firewall to access the internet for the web browser feature to work.
  • The first time you launch the web browser, you will most likely receive a prompt or popup from your firewall or A/V software?
You will have to answer "Yes" to allow KidRocket.exe to access the internet, so it will be able to retrieve and display webpages.
  • We recommend that you stay in unlocked mode the first time running Kidrocket and the web browser feature, so you can simply minimize the application to answer "Yes" to the prompt.
What kid safe sites are included?
  • KidRocket - KidSafe Version
  • PBS Kids - www.pbskids.com
  • Sesame Street - www.sesamestreet.com
  • LEGO - www.lego.com
  • National Geographic Kids - www.nationalgeographic.com

For one year this project has been developed as an alternative to the Start menu in Windows XP and Windows Vista.

MYUNINSTALLER

MyUninstaller is the most useful thing I have ever used, and have been using it for ages. Not only can you do the plain old uninstall. But it also show items without uninstallers, and the best part is that it shows you where on the pc the files are located, what the web address is, the company name, version, etc. It is miles beyond the plain add/remove within windows CP. Oh, almost forgot. It is great for detecting spyware too, how??? It will sort the items by installation date, so if you just got some 3rd party crap installed with your new P2P app, just open my Uninstaller and sort by date, you will see what has been installed today and can start removing it from there, or at least know what was installed so you can fight it.
