Many folks do think Acrobat is a requirement if you want to view PDFs, but it's not. Just as you can use Open Office or WordPerfect or some other program to open .DOC files, you can use a different program to create or open PDFs. The recommended free alternative to Adobe Reader for XP users is Foxit Reader for Windows and the current version is 2.2. It's a relatively small program (only slightly over 2 MB) runs on all versions of Windows from Windows 98 to Vista. You can download it here:
